These applications will change the creator codes of any TEXT file to that of the target application the TXT2 AutoTyper is named for. This allows you to automatically open the file using your preferred text editor or word processor when you double-click on it.
How Do They Work?
Just drag the text file on top of the TXT2 AutoTyper you want to use and it's icon will change to a text file icon for the target application. Then, you can just double-click on the file to open it in the application you prefer to use for reading text files.

Nowadays it seems that every SimpleText file that crosses my Desktop is way over 32K, meaning that I have to open BBEdit Lite (my preferred text editor) and then open the large text file from inside the program to read it. What a pain.
For awhile, I used the most excellent Extension called "Snitch" that allows you to change any of the pertinent desktop information, including Creator Codes and File Types, by making the "Get Info" box for any file show this information and allow for changes. But, like all good Mac users, I was concerned about patching the system with yet another extension.
Or, I have more than one file that needs changing, either because of size or because I just prefer to open them in BBEdit Lite instead of whichever application originally created them. This is especially true when I download a file and it's accompanying "Read Me" is a Microsoft Word file. If I absent mindedly double click it, I spend the next half a day or so waiting for Word to launch on my puny 68030 Macintosh.
So, I was going to try to do a ResEdit hack on the AutoTypers that come with JPEG View, and I found an STR# resource that said the file was made with "MakeAutoTyper". After some investigation, I found that "MakeAutoTyper" was a companion application to "FileTyper 4.2" by Daniel Azuma. In the documentation to that program, it says that AutoTypers a user creates can be distributed freely.
99% of the credit for these TXT2 AutoTypers goes to Mr. Azuma. All I did was the "grunt work" of creating AutoTypers that have the varied target applications for the resulting creator codes. Of course, in keeping with his wishes, the TXT2 AutoTypers may be bundled with products that are public domain or "freeware"; uploaded to bulletin board services or FTP sites; included in shareware collections distributed on stand alone CD-ROM, new hard drives, or floppy disks, providing that only reasonable media-related feeds are charged; or given to individuals, including within organizations or companies provided that no amount of money is charged for such distribution.
To bundle with products that are sold, including shareware, or to distribute as part of a shareware collection that is bundled with any book or magazine, bound or electronic, permission must be obtained from Daniel Azuma, author of FileTyper and MakeAutoTyper.
